Each step in the morning makes them more calm, relaxed and revitalise their minds to face the heat of every passing day. Nonetheless, with the advancement of science and technology, joggers are finding many wearable accessories to boost their jogging experience.
One among them is wireless headphone. As more and more people are leaning towards wireless technology, joggers too find the wireless headphones more comfortable than their wired counterparts.
The best jogging headphones can enhance your overall experience considerably; moreover there’s plenty of research to prove that music can supercharge your sprints.
The right pair of wireless jogging headphones can improve the overall experience and keep you fresh as you go jogging, whether you like to hit the pavement, sprint on trails, or pound the treadmill at the gym.
One of the major factors that you need to consider while buying the best jogging headphones is: will they stay in place? Apart from regular jogging, you may also get into intense workouts. Hence, your jogging headphones should be specially designed to stay in place and built to withstand rain and sweat.
Luckily, there are plenty of excellent options to choose from, many of which come quite cheap. Here are 10 best wireless jogging headphones out there. Check the guide below to find everything you need to know about them.
1) Apple AirPods Pro
Weight: 1.6 ounces | Battery life: 4.5 hours | On-ear controls: No | Fit: Customisable | Active noise cancellation: Yes | Sweat & water resistant: Yes
Price: $195 | View at Amazon
Even though the quality may not feel at par with a $249 model as you would hope, the AirPods Pro still have a top-notch sound quality. This is chiefly due to their award-winning design, improved bass performance, fit, active noise cancellation and outstanding call quality. The new model has a noise isolating design with a silicone tip that sits comfortably in your ear.
There is a transparency mode that allows sound to leak in, which could be a cool feature for runners. However, you’d still need to lower the volume to hear the external noise. The Apple AirPods Pro isn’t completely sweat proof, however, officially they’re being proclaimed as sweat-resistant.
“Wow! I never liked the original air pods. They always fell off. I’m so glad Apple came out with these and that I waited to splurge on headphones. The sound is beautiful, the fit is perfect. I literally just got these out the box and I fell in love! I have always been an Apple product lover. Well worth the wait!“
2) Beats Powerbeats Pro
Weight: 0.7 ounces | Battery life: Up t 9 hours | On-ear controls: Yes | Fit: Customisable | Active noise cancellation: N/A | Sweat & water resistant: Yes
Price: $249.99 | View at Amazon
The jumbo charging case of the Beats Powerbeats Pro comes with a major disadvantage. The charging case does not have wireless charging capabilities. It will only charge up via a lightning cable. However, if you consider all the features that make Apple’s AirPods a great option, you would find the Powerbeats delivers a richer sound quality and a better battery life along with a design that make the earbuds cling onto your ears – ultimately, a winning combination for headphones for running.
“Battery life, and sound quality is absolutely perfect. The earphones hold perfectly in place even during HIIT, and the sweat resistant makes it better than apple AirPods. The charging case is indeed a bit bulky, but doesn’t marginalize the value of this earphones. yes, it is pricey, and could have been $50 less, but its beats!“
3) Bose SoundSport Free
Weight: 0.64 ounce | Battery life: Up to 10 hours | On-ear controls: Yes | Fit: Customisable | Active noise cancellation: N/A | Sweat & water resistant: Yes
Price: $199 | View at Amazon
If any Bose sound equipment is priced around $200, you’d expect it to render fantastic sound. The Soundsport Free delivers. It won’t disappoint you. The sound quality of the Bose Soundsport Free is amazing, even probably better than the AirPods Pro. It has deep bass and crisp high tones. The ambient sound adjustment is amazing as even at 60% of the volume, you could still hear the traffic and external noise.
The earbuds are sweat and water-resistant, sturdy and extremely comfortable. The battery life is quite good and the charging case provides two extra charges on the go.
“From the standpoint of a person who uses these almost exclusively for running, they are perfect. I’ve owned a long string of running earbuds, and the sound quality of this pair far exceeds anything else I’ve tried. They’re also much more comfortable. The charging case works great and is really convenient. I haven’t experienced any of the connectivity issues others have mentioned, and I don’t use them for video so the syncing thing doesn’t impact me. I’m just thrilled to finally have found comfy, sweatproof running earbuds that give me huge, satisfying sound!“
4) Jabra Elite Active 75t
Weight: 8.8 ounces | Battery life: Up to 7.5 hours | On-ear controls: Yes | Fit: Customisable | Active noise cancellation: N/A | Sweat & water resistant: Yes
Price: $199 | View at Amazon
The shape of Jabra Elite Active 75t is the best of all. Jabra simply nailed in this category. Thanks to the angular build, the buds nests neatly in the outer ear canal. The sound quality is crisp, vibrant, and gives a good fight to Apple’s AirPods Pro. However, the product comes cheaper and offers about 90 minutes of more battery life on a single charge.
The HearThrough mode allows you to adjust ambient sound, however, it’s not effective in high winds. The Jabra Elite Active 75t is rated IP57, means they should withstand monsoon and sandstorms. The competing earbuds from Bose, Apple, Beats and others may offer superior sound, better comfort or amazing noise cancelling, however, none can do all these better than this little dynamite.
“I own the 65T, and bought these since they were said to be smaller and a better fit. I would agree on both counts, as sometimes the larger 65t would catch or move when I scrunched up in the gym. The smaller protrusion thing is very much appreciated. Sound quality is good, and clear. The smaller case with magnets and usb-c – SO GOOD! I think the only thing I don’t like is how easily the buttons actuate – they’re miles better than the 65t, but like just a tad too easy for me to hit if something hits them.“
5) Sennheiser CX Sport
Weight: 15g | Battery life: 6 hours | On-ear controls: No (in-line remote) | Fit: Customisable | Active noise cancellation: N/A | Sweat & water resistant: Yes
Price: $99 | View at Amazon
If the audio quality is the most important factor to you while choosing a jogging headphone, these wireless earbuds from the house of Sennheiser could be a terrific choice.
The energetic audio, bass-heavy texture, and snuggly fit of the Sennheiser CX Sport wireless earphones can really make a difference to your daily jogging schedules.
The neck-bud design doesn’t allow the band to land on the ground even if they do pop out during a jog. The product is easy to fit with multiple sizes of fins and tips. An ideal choice for both serious and casual workouts.
Sennheiser CX Sport features Bluetooth 4.2, Qualcomm apt-X, and apt-X Low Latency, all of which deliver superior audio over a stellar wireless connection.
Their waterproofing is rated at IPX4, which offers splash protection for five minutes. However, I stood in the shower, wore them in my sweaty ears, against my sweaty neck, even got caught in a brief summer rainstorm – the earbuds stood their ground.
“I’ve tried wireless earphones over and over. From Yurbudz to JayBird. JayBird had a wonderful quality. Even with all the tips and fins, I never got them to fit right and stay in my ears. The sound is really nice, just could NOT get the fit right. Enter the Sennheiser CX SPORT. This might just be the Goldilocks (just right) set. Rivals the sound of my Bose wired sport headphones. Shook my head around until I got dizzy and the set stayed in. I’m really hopeful I’ve found the solution I’ve been searching for, finally. I’ll update this post if disappointment creeps in. Right now, I’m very happy.”
6) Jabra Sport Pulse
Weight: 16g | Battery life: Up to 5 hours | On-ear controls: In-line | Fit: Customisable | Active noise cancellation: Yes | Sweat & water resistant: Yes
Price: $99 | View at Amazon
Jabra’s another product apart from the Elite Active 75t also met our criteria and found a place in our list. The Sport Pulse wireless headphone is tiny, subtle, and weighs only 16g. For better fit and comfort, the headphone come with two sets of earpieces. The sound quality is amazing and features Dolby sound enhancement. They also have a biometric built-in heart rate monitor which is surprisingly accurate. The earphones are US military standard and IP55 certified. They are tested for drop, strength, dirt, humidity and temperature.
“I would recommend. I am 51 and have had no problems at all with setting up the earphones and using the application. I use them with Spotify and they work great, able to go forward and backwards with my songs by pressing the earplugs. I run about 50 minutes a day and I am able to get 4 runs in before recharging. Recharging is no big deal; just plug into USB port on computer.“
7) AfterShokz Aeropex
Weight: 26g | Battery life: 8 hours | On-ear controls: Yes | Fit: Standard | Active noise cancellation: N/A | Sweat & water resistant: Yes
Price: $159 | View at Amazon
AfterShokz bone conduction wireless headphones are quite different than the regular in-ear wireless headphones due to a unique singularity – they don’t go on your ears. These unique headphones deliver sound to your eardrums through your cheekbones.
Due to its open design, this lets you hear ambient noise while listening to music or taking calls. This safety feature makes it a lucrative choice for many joggers as they can hear external noise and ambient sound while jogging. Also, since some race coordinators don’t entertain runners wearing anything in their ears.
“Long time AfterShokz customer here. I’ve had the titanium model for 2 years, then I upgraded to the Air model. I didn’t think they could get any more comfortable or sound any better, but somehow this model does both. So far, couldn’t be happier. The lack of water protection was my only complaint of the previous models which this one addresses. I am glad they improved the battery in this model as well, since I was slightly disappointed in the battery life of the Air model. Every time I buy a pair of AfterShokz they are the best headphones I’ve ever owned. They should pay me for how much I recommend these to friends.“
8) Samsung Galaxy Buds+ Plus
Weight: 5.7 ounces | Battery life: Up to 11 hours | On-ear controls: Tap | Fit: Customisable | Active noise cancellation: Yes | Sweat & water resistant: N/A
Price: $139 | View at Amazon
Galaxy Buds+ are the picture-perfect fitting earphones to isolate the distracting outside noises. And, if you want to filter-in some of the noises of the outside world, you can switch-on Ambient Aware2. Want to hear flight announcements or traffic while still enjoying your favourite playlist? Just switch on the Ambient Aware2?
Get up to 11 hours of nonstop music on a single charge. The wireless charging case gives you additional 11 hours. Just 3 minutes of charging can give you one hour of play time.
While calling, one internal and two external microphones of Galaxy Buds+ neatly pick up your voice and isolate it from external noises, hence, it sounds rich and clear out, even in noisy locations.
“Love love love! These are so great. They stay in and the sound is clear as a bell. There is an “Ambient Sound” setting on the app which makes it easy to hear what’s going on around you in addition to what you’re listening to. The buttons on the pods are super sensitive, which took a bit of practice to get used to. It’s hard to adjust them in your ears without hitting the touch pad, but I’ll get used to it. Love the charging case. At work I can keep one in my ear and keep the other one charging, which means both of them will charge. Worth the money and I got them in red so they kind of look like jewelry!“
9) Jaybird X4
Weight: 14.7g | Battery life: 8 hours | On-ear controls: Yes | Fit: Customisable | Active noise cancellation: No | Sweat & water resistant: Yes
Price: $84 | View at Amazon
The latest Jaybird X4 managed to make both the previous Jaybird X2 and Jaybird X3 wireless bluetooth earphones almost obsolete with an upgraded IPX7 water-resistance rating. Whether you’re sweating like hell or running relentlessly through the rain, the X4 will cope with it.
The sound quality of Jaybird X4 is above-average with a deep, consistent and punchy bass, with a relatively decent and well-balanced treble.
The excellent app of Jaybird also offers easy EQ customizations, and moreover, you can make your own sound profile. It is a great all-rounder for joggers who don’t want to compromise on sound – or be wary of the weather.
Alternatively, if you want to upgrade the experience, the Jaybird Tarah earbuds offer higher-quality audio and materials for a somewhat superior $159 £139 price tag.
Although the Jaybird X4 headphones are an excellent pick, you may also want to take a look at the Jaybird Vista True headphones – you’d love them if you’re in the market for a pair of true wireless earbuds.
“I just received my X4’s yesterday, so I’m writing this review with a grain of salt. First, the sound quality is amazing once you get the sound balance set up. Fortunately, that didn’t take long as I went into the Jaybird app and was able to find and save a preset called “The Perfect Balance” and now these are by far my favorite headphones. Second, I noticed a lot of reviews detailing issues with the battery burning out. This is most likely because the X4 are quick charging. If you leave your headphones charging for too long you will fry the battery. So, I will only be charging these for thirty minutes at a time. That seems appropriate since my max workout would most likely be three hours, and these only need thirty minutes to give me three hours worth of charge.“
10) Sennheiser OCX 686i Sports
Weight: 0.05 pounds | Battery life: 8-12 hours | On-ear controls: Yes | Fit: Customisable | Active noise cancellation: No | Sweat & water resistant: Yes
Price: $71 | View at Amazon
These cool wireless headphones from Sennheiser fit via a secure hook over the ears. This unique hooked design, coupled with the different-sized earbuds make sure you feel locked in. These earphones are best for gyms or trainings but not compatible for roads and they block almost all ambient sounds.
However, with an affordable price tag, rain- and sweat-resistance, and the unique over-ear hook design, these little wonders are a perfect match for sport.
“These are great for commuting and for exercise, they do not fall off. The volume control is easily accessible, the sound is clear both for rock, jazz and classical. I use mine all the time during my over 1 hr commute via bus and subway and surrounding noise is muted enough. Very comfortable. I would recommend getting a cord keeper so you don’t get snagged on something. highly recommend.”
